Soccer is by no means forgotten when it comes to being well represented each year. There are a few notable soccer franchises that dominate the soccer market. Each franchise offers their own brand of gaming while competing with each other. To go along with these there are even games made specifically for the World Cup, trying to capture the momentum of the largest sporting even in the world. This all leads to a highly competitive market, which only means better games for the gamers out there.
The most notable soccer franchise out there is the EA Sports FIFA series. It is the industry leader when it comes to soccer games and is usually the first game people think of when they think of soccer. This leads to it generally selling better then any other soccer franchise but does not necessarily mean it is always the better game. Soccer has to be tweaked to really sell well as a video game in the United States so this franchise tends to feel a bit more arcade like. This usually leads to higher scoring games then would be in an actual game. That doesnt mean that its not a fun game, its just that its a much faster paced game then an actual game.
Pro Evolution Soccer is the other major franchise out there and it is much more of a simulation type game. It is extremely hard to score, just like in a real game. This may turn off some casual soccer fans but will really appeal to a more hardcore fan. A real simulation of a game that isnt all that popular in the United States may not sell all that well there but it does not mean that there isnt room for a game like it in the market.
In the end, these franchises offer everything that would be wanted in a soccer game. For the more casual fans, theres the more arcade type style with a lot of scoring or the more simulation type game with the slower pace. No matter what type of game is preferred, theres something out there to fit that type of play style. This all means that soccer games are one of the few sports with heavy competition and means better games for everyone in general.
